Climate change impacts on aquatic environments:
Rising water temperatures and altered precipitation patterns.
Ongoing eutrophication and pollution issues affecting water quality.
Hydropower infrastructure hindering fish migration (e.g., salmon, trout).
Governance of fish stocks affecting coastal fishing conditions.
The Role of Fishing Tourism in Sustainable Transition:
Encourage local engagement in ecological restoration.
Support funding and legitimacy for conservation initiatives.
Increase awareness about water quality and sustainability.
Enable new business opportunities for guides, accommodations, and rural tourism.
Promote public health through nature-based activities.
Deliverables
1. Current State Analysis:
Mapping of existing fishing tourism: scope, geography, stakeholders, target groups, resources.
Evaluation of economic, social, and cultural values.
Inventory of water bodies with development potential.
2. Environmental & Climate Analysis:
Overview of environmental and climate-related challenges (e.g., eutrophication, pollution, biodiversity loss).
Identification of ecologically sensitive water environments.
How fishing tourism interacts with ecosystem health.
3. Market & Trend Analysis (Environmental Scanning):
National and international trends in fishing tourism.
Case studies of successful models and best practices.
Consumer behaviors and future demand outlook.
4. Stakeholder Analysis:
Mapping of key actors and their roles, motivations, and perspectives.
Conduct interviews or workshops with relevant stakeholders (e.g., fishers, NGOs, authorities).
5. Potential & Recommendations:
Proposals for strategic development areas for fishing tourism (target: 2035).
Identification of potential actions or pilot projects (e.g., ecological restoration, events, cooperation initiatives).
Recommendations for policy and collaboration efforts.
6. Final Report:
A comprehensive written report including all analyses, findings, and strategic recommendations.
Execution & Collaboration
Kick-off and core meetings will be held in Malmö.
Interviews and workshops may be on-site across Skåne or online.
Work is agile and collaborative—consultant will be integrated into the client’s team and development process.
Mandatory Requirements
Proven experience in strategic environmental scanning and scenario development
Expertise in interview techniques and research
Ecological knowledge: fish conservation, water quality, ecosystem services
Preferred Qualifications
Strong writing and communication skills (report design)
Familiarity with Skåne region
Understanding of nature and fishing tourism sectors
